Josh Groban on Michael Buble's Concert

He came up and joked with Michael. So funny cos they teased each other using songs. Josh sang 'Home' etc and Michael sang 'You Raise Me Up'. So funny when Michael asked Josh what the first line of 'To Where You Are' was and Josh answered, 'You're on your own, man.' When Michael started to sing, Josh pretended to be shameful and said, 'What am I? Kermit The Frog?' LOL =D In the end, Michael said that he wanted to be a pop singer xd

News: Martin, Fleck and Cole coming to Botanic Gardens this summer

Few venues in central Denver can hold a candle to the under-the-stars beauty and bring-your-own-wine aesthetic of the Denver Botanic Gardens concert series. Fans can expect some changes in this coming season, most notably the new sound system that will deliver the music to the masses. Fans might not notice, but the Gardens switched talent [...]

While a snowstorm raged outside, Sleepy Suns frontlady Rachel Williams declared last Tuesday (March 23) that the band was there to grind the night out, and with that proclamation the San Francisco sextet launched into their set. Andrea Ball’s packed CD release party at the Hi-Dive on Friday was a testament to the buzz the Denver songwriter has lately generated. Panties at the Bar

Every week Monday, 9:00pm - Sometimes it's the simple things that get guys through the day, and they usually start with the letter B: bars, booze, and, uh, boobs. Every Monday there's all of that and more when the lovely ladies of the Ooh La La Burlesque serve up affordable drinks while dressed provocatively in panties and fis...

News: Denver music scene splashes into South by Southwest 2010

A city’s music movement doesn’t arrive on the national scene drop by drop. When it happens, and that is rare and remembered, it comes with a big splash. In that way, Colorado’s independent musicians are doing a cannonball into this year’s South by Southwest music festival, which starts in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday.Nothing predicts the [...]

The Border is back in business

After Brian Haddad and David Weiss bought The Border, a University of Denver hangout for more than three decades, they didn't waste any time. They closed the deal on a Friday in late January, brought in a lot of people to clean the joint over the weekend, and had all new vendors and everyt...

Dan Allen

On the back cover of Thompson Blues, Dan Allen's latest album, there's a photo of Allen holding a stack of Jim Thompson novels. While this might be intriguing for fans of the crime-fiction writer, who wrote some gritty, tough-ass books like The Killer Inside Me, The Getaway a...

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings

One thing about Sharon Jones that's often overlooked: She may be the figurehead of today's retro-soul movement, but she was also there the first time around. Granted, Jones may not have been strutting around big stages the same time that Tina Turner was tearing up "Nutbush City Limits," but Jones...

Jaguar Love

Although Fat Possum Records has branched out over the years with the acquisition of bands like the Walkmen, bolstering a roster that already includes such groups as Dinosaur Jr., Andrew Bird, Lissie and Heartless Bastards, really, it's still about the last place on earth you'd expect to find an a...

Robbie Rivera at Beta

Robbie Rivera is one of those incredibly prolific artists who make normal musicians look like slackers. Since releasing his first track ("El Sorullo") in 1996, he's produced dozens and dozens of tracks, a seemingly unceasing stream of funky, dirty house music, incorporating everything from...

Glowing House

At first listen, it's easy to mistake Glowing House's debut as a vehicle for Jess Parsons, the outfit's lead vocalist and pianist/guitarist. But the more the sumptuous and heartfelt songs sink in, the more the whole project feels like a real band. And a good band. Sidestepping the trend of precio...

Hard Pressed

Husband and wife Cory Obert and Andrea Lecos marry fiddle and banjo and tell the story of their lives. They are inspired by bike rides, blackbirds, their two dogs and, most significantly, the amber-trapped past. They know words are inadequate and don't use them very often, relying much more on th...

Andrea Ball

Building on some of the ideas presented on her last album, 2008's Beat Beat Pound, Andrea Ball once again sidesteps the well-worn singer-songwriter template on Dial Tone, her latest effort, in favor of more plodding, piano-heavy arrangements. Fleshed out by an array of interesting s...

Live review: Midlake @ the Bluebird Theater

There were no Hobbits around during Midlake’s Bluebird show on Thursday, but the band’s soft-rock/folk set certainly would have warranted it.
