Doing it live: Dubskin at Reggae on the Rocks this Saturday

For Cory Eberhard, the liberation of playing reggae hasn't come solely from the music's messages of political activism and rebellion. Lee Iacocca's Rock Concert

A slightly more obscure "SCTV" clip. Lee A. Iococca was the head of Chrysler when this clip aired. He sought and was given a loan guarantee for Chrysler by the United States government, and played a pivotal role in Chrysler's TV ads. "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert" was a weekly TV show for popular music acts of the day. Put the two together and you get "Lee A. Iococca's Rock Concert!" This clip was a special request from ConnDevi88, who wanted to see Rick Moranis doing his Ringo impression! Look for a picture of a young Chastity Bono - now Chaz Bono - in a shot at the beginning with Sonny, Cher and Dave Thomas as Lee Iacocca. Also look for a spoof of a famous Bigfoot film clip during the Gino Vanelli song. If you don't know who people like Gino Vanelli and Slim Whitman are/were, find yourself a good search engine and get busy!

NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert: Phoenix

The sounds of the group's best-selling 2009 album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix are so ubiquitous to viewers of TV commercials that they produce a Pavlovian impulse to purchase portable music players and luxury automobiles. But at this Tiny Desk Concert, instantly recognizable hits such as "1901" and "Lisztomania" were stripped down and reassembled as sweetly shambling acoustic numbers.

KISS - Rock 'n Roll all Night (Music Video)

All the countries have a national anthem, well this is the Rock 'n Roll Worldwide Anthem, realesed on Dressed to Kill, this song is one of the most famous song of the band, the song said all, you have to Rock 'n Roll all Night, and Party Everyday, with the famous drum intro, same as "Anythink for my Baby" also realesed on Dressed to Kill. The studio version of the song peaked at #57 on the Billboard singles chart, besting the band's previous charting single, "Kissin' Time" (#79). A subsequent live version released as a single in October 1975, eventually reached #12, the first of six Top 20 songs for Kiss in the 1970s. Since then, it has become Kiss's most identifiable song, and has served as one of the group's closing concert numbers in almost every concert since 1976. In 2009 it was named the 16th greatest hard rock song of all time by VH1. "Rock and Roll All Nite" was written by Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons while Kiss was still in Los Angeles, as part of their Hotter Than Hell tour although during the groups concert at Cobo Hall in Detroit on January 26, 1976, Stanley states to the audience before the group begin the song that it was written in and for Detroit. The tour ended early (February 1975), when Casablanca Records founder and president Neil Bogart ordered Kiss to return to the studio to record a follow up to Hotter Than Hell, which had stalled on the charts and failed to meet Casablanca's sales expectations. One of Bogart's instructions to the band was to ...

VonAmp -- COPS Called to Concert -- Let's Make Some Noise! Tag: #1 Best Teen Rock Band

VonAmp performed at the Belair this week and what a show it was. Tony (the lead singer) was really sick at the time of this show. This is a video of some of VonAmp's originals, but there's some funny scenes too. First of all, we want to thank the Mike Renick Band and the Big Idea for coming out to support us. Ben. P -- you are the man...thank you for all of your support. We've played at the Belair before -- they have a very cool outdoor stage, awesome food, and tasty drinks. It's a local favorite hangout. A bunch of our friends & family came out to support us, so we knew it would be a good time. As soon as we went through sound check, we found out that 2 of our main speakers were blown, so we had to make a quick adjustment....and that always sucks when you're doing a live show. So we turned our monitors around and used them for our speakers. Later in the night, our guitarist broke guitar strings on 2 guitars...and that's never happened before. It was one weird night. Anyway, the cops got called out -- yes, the owner was fined some big bucks...watch the video and you'll see what happened.

San Francisco's Ty Segall is garage rock in the same sense that Thee Oh Sees and the Coachwhips are — meaning that its show is as disorienting for its weirdness and intensity as the music is. Woven into the stripped-down, ebulliently delivered rock and roll are warped sounds, straightahead ...

Not player-haters: Hayter's opens in LoDo, Rockaway Tavern opens on Broadway

Getting a liquor license in Montana can run into six figures. That's one of the reasons that Mike Hayter and his business partner, Mike Refling, left Bozeman and moved to Denver to open their new sports bar, Hayter's, in the former Lizard's Bar & Grill space, at 1920 Blake Street.

Listener

Atlanta, Georgia, is a locus of some of the most interesting music coming out of the United States at the moment. It's known for its flourishing hip-hop as well as its experimental rock, so it's no surprise that an act like Listener would emerge from the place. Dan Smith and Christin Nelson write...

Brocken Spectre

This latest offering from Lucio Duran, formerly of long-running experimental electronic outfit Blackcell, immediately recalls late-era Future Sound of London with its electro-organic sound. "The Machinist" is, roughly, a 140 bpm equivalent of jogging through darkened and deserted city streets wit...

The Gamits

Chris Fogal has a message for fellow musicians. On the song "Delusional," Fogal tells his starry-eyed peers: "You will never know fame/You will never get signed." Considering Fogal's previous close calls with success, it would behoove up-and-comers to pay attention. The Gamits' last record, 2004'...

B.B. King Blues Festival

But instead of talking, they ended up writing eight songs in one night.

"We just wanted t...

Rush

Wed., August 18, 8:00pm - For one of the most successful bands in history, Rush remains a pretty cryptic bunch. Formed in 1968, the Canadian trio of guitarist Alex Lifeson, drummer/lyricist Neil Peart (who joined in 1974) and singer/bassist/keyboardist Geddy Lee began as a Zeppelin-esque hard-rock combo before mutating into ...

Snake Rattle Rattle Snake

Sun., August 22, 1:00pm - "When we were in high school in Fort Collins, Hayley and I would play guitar for each other on the railroad tracks behind my house," remembers Doug Spencer, guitarist of Snake Rattle Rattle Snake. Then he laughs. "She'd always sing about this jerk that she liked."

That jerk, of course, wound up b...

Sat., August 21 - When a local band opens for a national act, the former generally does its best to impress its touring counterparts. Rakim

Wed., August 25, 9:00pm - Rakim Allah (born William Michael Griffin, Jr.) is the father of lyrical finesse and the king of emceeing. His emergence onto the hip-hop scene in 1987 arguably changed the theatrics in rhyme scheme, impacting the future flow of cats like Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan and a host of oth...

Ty Segall

Thu., August 19 - San Francisco's Ty Segall is garage rock in the same sense as could be said of Thee Oh Sees or the Coachwhips -- that is to say that the show is as disorienting for its weirdness and intensity as much as the music. Woven into the stripped down, ebulliently delivered rock and roll are warped sounds, ...
